Our goal is to create a homestead that will allow us to live as self-sufficiently as possible.
We're exploring solar and wind power, water collection systems for capturing rain water, and planning gardens, orchards and a small greenhouse operation.

The Smith Family Homestead was established in late 2006 in Hillsboro, Texas, about 80 miles south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
We raise White and Colored Angora goats, Angora and Lionhead Rabbits and plan to add more fiber animals over the next few years.
We have an apiary which provides honey and beeswax, and we often have large round bales of hay for sale.
We also plan to add mixed poultry - chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and guineas, and perhaps some dairy goats for making our own cheese.
Our homestead even includes its own catfish operations.
Our livestock goals involve breeding for not only high-quality genetics but also great fiber and color. We believe in treating our animals humanely and providing a safe, healthy environment.

Our farm is guarded by a fierce and devoted (but motley) ground crew...
Not to mention our feline squad - no bird, no gopher or mouse is safe when they are on patrol!!
They have demonstrated a great love for the farm and work so well together.
